Steve and I grew up together as our moms were in the PTA at Madison #2. He was creative and we went to art classes at ASU on Saturday mornings. He was much more talented than I was!! He was a baker for Smittys for awhile.
Steve and I were serious rivals in grade school. he lived on the next street from me and I think my dad sold them insurance. He was a very good guy. Kind and friendly. Somehow we both had a knack for spelling and were spelling bee finalists 4 years in a row. He beat me twice and I still remember the words I got wrong and he got right (making him the champion) but I am too embarrassed to reveal. I saw him at at least one reunion but I understand that we lost him not long thereafter. I would be interested to know what happened. God bless him wherever he is.
