Scott Hveem Obituary

Scott Ashley Hveem, 71, was born 21Feb51 in Inglewood, CA in Los Angeles County. He died in Phoenix, AZ 4Oct22, following health issues. Scott grew up in Prescott, AZ and Phoenix, AZ.

Following his discharge from his military service in the Air Force in 1972, Scott returned to Phoenix. He was a proud member of the Freemasons Masonic White River Lodge No 62. A hard worker, no matter what job or task was before him, Scott helped friends and neighbors wherever he lived. Never asking for more than a simple thank you. He became the principal advocate in the Homestead Neighborhood in Phoenix and got it declared an Arizona Historical District.

Scott was a private person, never bragging about his accomplishments. Possessions were not as important as family and friends. With a sense of humor that was sometimes slightly off-center, he was occasionally outspoken and always honest. He pulled his weight, always doing more than his share. Those who knew him were blessed to call him a friend.

He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Jeanne, and survived by his partner, Carol Thomason, 4 siblings: Karen Hansen, Jon Hveem, Holly Ryan and Richard Hveem and 13 nephews and nieces: Amber Hansen, Alexis Hansen, Eric Ryan, Ashley Hveemryan, Arne Hveemryan, Honey (Ryan) Hanewinckel, Abram Ryan, Christian Ryan, RJ Hveem, Brittany Hveem, Ashley (Hveem) Anderson, Rachel (Hveem) Petricca, and Audrey Hveem. 6 great nephews and 10 great nieces.

Military honors will be Oct 20, 2023 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona at 10:30 AM

Scott and I welded our friendship from Elementary School when we joined the Lafayette scout troop, After years hiking and camping throughout northern AZ, we finished scouting  during our senior year at CHS, when we led most of our troop for a week backpack trip to the bottom of Havasupai Canyon.  A couple of years later, in 1972, Mike Currie and I drove in Mike's car to visit  Scott who was in training at Buckley AFB in Denver.  We were quick to relive "Vitamin Brother's" glory -- we had a blast.**

Everytime I returned to Phoenix, Scott and I would climb to a spot on Squaw Peak and solve the world's problems.  Our climbing heights were slowly reduced so, by the time of our 50th in Oct 2019, we settled for a bench near the park entrance to pronouce our findings.

Blue Skies and fair tail winds, dear friend,  I will see you next week 20 Oct 2023 at 1030AM when we return your cremanes to the earth at the National Memorial Cemetery AZ.

** We  were named "the vitamin brothers" by the CHS crosscountry coach because we looked like 3 lanky bean poles. Mike and I were stationed near Colorado Springs in the military - Mike was in the Army at Ft Carson and I was at the AF Academy). Incidentally, Mike and I were the only visitors to meet his new wife, a 1971 CHS Graduate, as they were divorced a few weeks later.  He never married again.
