Sporting Clays at Ben Avery Shooting Facility-October 26, 2019

Hi everyone,

I would like to collect at my house between 7:30 am and 8:00 am, Saturday morning, Oct. 26th, so we can hit the road and have breakfast at a decent time after the event.

Sporting Clays is a course that has a number of shooting stations.  Each station has a metal frame that you stand in, and has 2 launchers for the clays.  They are outgoing, incoming or any combination of directions.  There is even one that bounces across in front of you, just like a rabbit.  You shoot 2 times per station, more if you wish, after everyone has had their turn.  Scores will be kept, not to see who wins, but to keep track of the clays thrown for session cost.  50 clays would be $15.00.  25 clays would be $7.50.  We will walk from each station to the next.  Most are about 100 feet apart.  There is water and bathrooms out on the course.

Things you will need:

  • A shotgun that is fired from the shoulder (12 gauge, 20 gauge, or 4.10 gauge are all OK.)

Rentals are $10.00.

  • 2 boxes of shotgun shells (50 rounds).  Shot sizes #7, #7 ½ and #8 are OK).  About $6.50 a box, or 30 cents each.  Smaller or larger sizes are prohibited.
  • Eye protection (Prescription glasses, sun glasses or safety glasses are all OK.)
  • Ear protection (I have ear plugs and 2 sets of muffs).
  • Good athletic style walking shoes, hiking boots or low-cut boots are all fine.
  • Sun protection, hat, long sleeve shirt, SPF if you so choose.
  • A gun cart, shared cost by 4 or 5 people.
  • 50 clays, which will be provided in the launchers at Ben Avery.  $1.25 per person (about 30 cents each).

If you already have any of these items, you can use your own.  If you do not have them, I should be able to supply a gun, ear plugs, glasses and shotgun shells.

Keep enough change I your pocket for breakfast at Joes Café afterwards, one of the best breakfast spots around.  He’s famous for his pancakes.  Chorizo is not bad either.  Joe’s is about a mile from my house.

Any questions – 1horsemumbler@cox.net – 602-708-4814.

Thanks for your interest in going shooting.

Ron Cordova
